Faith, grief, and staying steady in business

The week that knocked the wind out of me

Only a few weeks ago, we were soaking up a sweet vacation. Lots of sunshine, laughter, and space to breathe.

It was one of those rare windows where everything slowed down. We made memories. We laughed. We rested. My heart felt full.

Then we came home, and the kids jumped right into a new school year. Our mornings got busy, lunches got packed and the house got… quiet. A kind of quiet we haven’t felt in months.

And then… life shifted again.

My aunt was in hospice. My parents and I packed the car to make an unexpected trip to see her and say goodbye. But two and a half hours into the drive, we got the call: she had already passed.

Grief hit hard. And fast.

I sat with so many emotions those next few days. Joy from our trip. Exhaustion from the transition. Heartache over the loss. A strange stillness in the house (and in my spirit) that left me feeling untethered.

And here’s the truth: if it weren’t for my faith, I don’t know how I would’ve made it through the week standing.

In moments like this, I need more than rest. I need more than a business that “runs itself.” I need God’s presence. His peace. His steadiness.

That week, I found myself clinging to Him in the quiet hours. Pouring out my grief. Asking for strength. Sitting in Scripture. And He met me, right there in the mess of it all.

All of this got me thinking about Emotional Resilience (and how faith + finances support it).

Emotional resilience is your ability to recover, adapt, and keep moving forward… even when life punches you in the gut. It isn’t something you muscle your way through. It’s something you build, with intention, structure, and surrender.

For me, that looks like:

  • Time with the Lord to stay grounded and guided
  • Financial clarity so I’m not panicking when life disrupts my plans
  • Systems and margin so I can step away when I need to (without guilt or chaos)

When your finances are clear and you know what’s coming in, what’s going out, and what you’ve set aside for the unexpected, it frees up your heart and mind to process what really matters.

To be present with family. To grieve fully. To pray, rest, and recover without feeling like your world is on fire.

This week reminded me: I’m not in control. But I’m not alone either.

God has been faithful to carry me through seasons much harder than this. And part of that faithfulness has shown up through the structure and stability we’ve built into our business, brick by brick.

So if you’re in a season that feels heavy, disorienting, or just plain exhausting, I want you to hear this:

You are not alone. Don’t give up. Keep pressing ahead. Things will get better. Even if they don’t feel that way right now.

And if you need someone to talk to, even just to say “this is hard,” my door’s always open.
